Grief is a kind of loss that silently demands compassion. We offer our help without being asked because we can imagine eventually feeling this same pain ourselves. But when it comes to suicide, everything becomes more complicated: it eludes our understanding, leaving us with questions we often don’t dare to ask, fearing we might be inappropriate. Thus, we risk drifting away.

On March 22, 2022, Clara lost her father—he took his own life. Clara is one of Gianmarco’s closest friends, and this performance tells her story. A portrait was brought to life through her words, artistic visuals, and the music of three composers, representing her emotions: anger, dissociation, and loneliness. But everything is seen through the eyes of Gianmarco, the friend trying to approach a pain that seems untouchable. Because we are our emotions. Let’s open ourselves to one another, and we will no longer be alone.

Gianmarco Moneti (Arezzo, 1996) started playing the piano at 11 with Lara Viviani. He pursued his Bachelor’s (2018) and Master’s (2020) degrees in Classical Piano Performance at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire of Turin under Professor Laura Richaud, both times graduating with honors. In 2022, he completed a Master’s degree in Chamber Music under Antonio Valentino with distinction.

His training continued at the Fondazione Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo, studying with Enrico Pace and Giovanni Doria Miglietta, where he graduated in 2023 with the title of “Master,” the highest recognition. Gianmarco further pursued advanced studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, earning a Master’s in Classical Piano in 2024 under David Kuyken, with a grade of 9 and publishing his artistic research.

He has participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned pianists, including Joaquìn Achucarro, Aleksandar Madzar, Michel Bèroff, Roberto Plano, Franck Braley, and Alexei Lubimov, among others.

Gianmarco has performed at prestigious festivals and venues such as Radio West, Bachdag Amersfort, Goethe-Institut Turin, Reggia di Venaria, Teatro Vittoria, Festival dell’Espressionismo, Musica d’Estate (Bardonecchia) and Fondazione Lingotto Musica. He has also been featured in events like the Mozart and Schumann Festivals by Unione Musicale in Turin, and collaborated with artists like violinist Adrian Pinzaru and the Balletto del Teatro di Torino. In duo with pianist Alessandro Di Gennaro, he performed in the Meredith Monk retrospective organized by Oude Kerk Amsterdam and the Hartwig Foundation, playing all of the composer's Piano Songs in two recitals.

In addition, he co-founded the Echi Festival, a contemporary music concert series, commissioning new works from emerging Italian composers and writing scripts and scenarios for musical and theatrical performances. Gianmarco has been invited to perform on Italian national television (RAI) and in two holistic recitals in Santiago de Chile.

Programma

Grażyna Bacewicz - Pianosonate nr.2
